Feather Your Nest

Mixing Old and New post today. Francie over at the Scented Cottage had a wonderful post recently about incorporating bird nest in your home decor. She is making some beautiful ones so pop on over there and see what she does. (Her blog is on my side bar). She writes that there is a German saying that says if you find a bird's nest in your Christmas tree that your family will have health, wealth and happiness in the coming year. I have never found a bird's nest in a fresh live Christmas tree but I have always put one in our tree that was found outside in the yard.....then added a little bird and pearls for eggs. In my kitchen I have grapevines winding around the valance and there is a bird nest hidden in there. In my upstairs bath we painted a mural of a dove nesting. The mural is supposed to look like part of the wall has fallen down and a bird has nested on the ledge. Living on a lake I find all kinds of large feathers in my yard which I collect and keep in an old ironstone crock. And of course my website boutique is called theVintageNest. Maybe all the nests I have collected and used over the years while feathering my own nest was the prelude to this wonderful experience I am having with my website.

Lynn, I love your nests! I love the mural...Did you paint it? It is so sweet. I did a post on nest on my blog on Sept 9th...take a look when you have a chance...

Thanks for visiting my blog and saying such nice things about my mosaics and my mosaic license plate. I am actually selling them on my website for people who live in state that don't require a front tag!

Lynn, I love the painted nests in your home! Those are gorgeous. I absolutely adore birds and love to watch them at my feeders. And there is just something special about finding a birds nest outside. My grandma had found a few in her Christmas tree over the years and always tucked one in the tree every year. We used to love to look for it when we would goto her house on Christmas day!

I love this post :)
Hugs,
Amy

Ohh..I have 4 birds nests!! I will have to show them on my blog sometime. My kids know how I feel about nests..as a matter of fact all the nests I have were delivered to me by a wee one after the residents had moved out!
Blessings,
Robin

I love the mural. I will have to check out that saying. My husband is German. And we tuck a fake nest into our Christmas tree. My mom has these 2 HUGE pine trees in front of her house and not all that long ago I commented on how many nests there must be in there. She said judging from the amount of birds flying in and out of there all day - a million!

Love,
Julie

Oh, I love your mural, and I see the sweet nest and birdie in your grapevines. I collect bird nests too, I think they are amazing. I have a couple of my favorites on my mantel now and posted a picture of them on my blog. I didn't know about putting a nest in the Christmas tree,I like that and plan to do it this year. Linda
