Mixing Old & New

Can you mix an elegant vintage cherub statue with an old worn farm table, a worn old bench with bits of barn red paint still on it, a newly slip covered wing chair, a beautiful old antique crystal chandelier, a $10.00 chest of drawers given new life with a coat of white paint (which I still haven't put the crystal knobs on yet), old china plates and new comtemporary art and metal scroll work? Yes, absolutely! (The wing back chair is the Diva's place of honor.....that would be me. :)

Shoot, us antiquers, junkers and thrifters have been going green for years before it was the thing to do. I am sure we have saved countless items from being thrown in the landfills and given them new life and precious new homes. All the bits and bobs of no longer wearable jewelry is also being given new life as I incorporate them into the crowns I have been making for the boutique. This Diva crown wears an old chippy enamel butterfly brooch and a gorgeous old pink rhinestone button. Love the colors on this piece. It's so fresh and Springy looking.

Two of our favorite sweet little birds are leaving the nest for a while. Jenn and Jacqui have to leave for 12 weeks, I believe, while their new home is having work done to it. We will miss you beautiful ladies tremendously and your charming blog. But we do hope you will be able to pop in every now and then to say hi 'cause we love ya' so much. sniff...sniff) xo Lynn

Hi Lynn! We truly love mixing the old with the new, to us that kind of decor is a perfect combination of modern comfort and can't beat-vintage-all-time-beauty :) Love your home, the wall colour is gorgeous too. Fight you for the wingback! lol Miss Lynn thank you so much, we will miss you too! We promise to visit and not lurk in the shadows! Now you put those tissues away and get on fitting those crystal knobs okay? lol

Take care and talk soon,
Jenn and Jacqui xo

I adore your dining room! It's funny you mentioned 'going green' b/c that was what I kept telling everyone at Christmas when I bought all their presents at antique malls! I told them I was recycling in my own way!

Awwww, shucks, Lynn, those eco-decor folks are just now "catching on", aren't they? After all, both eclectic and eco began with ec? I crave your table and bench. The color scheme is to die for and, yes, the mix of old and new, crystal and texture is a beautiful example of yet an another ec- eclectic! Great contrast and textures. LOVE IT!

Lovely photos Lynn, I love the mix you have attained. I especially love the table and bench. Reminds me of my mother (inlaw)'s table and benches that her father had hand crafted for her wedding present.

Lynn, your room is just beautiful, I love what you have done. I so envy antiquers and junkers, because the finds you come across and refurbish are just so vast and wonderful. I just don't have the patience to go out looking for stuff, that I think is my problem. : ) I love the crown you made, it is lovely.

You are so right about about how we in this business, or those who just to for themselves because they love it, have been going green for years. It feels so good to save something that would be destined for the landfill and giving it new life and seeing the joy it brings to its new owners.

I am so glad to of found your site...another favorite to our growing list.

I love your version of "going green". Indeed, we trash-to- treasure creators play our roles in saving the planet and we enjoy immensly the fruit of our labor.

Love the way you "mix it up"
