Bling Your Birdhouse

Let the fun begin!
Karla of Karla's Cottage and Beth of Gathering Dust
are hosting a Bling Your Birdhouse party and everyone is invited. It starts tomorrow, Thursday the 27th of March. I am a little early because tomorrow is a fun day on the road for me. Those participating are decorating those cute miniature papier mache bird houses you can buy in the craft stores and decorating them with all kinds of fun stuff for Spring. But Karla said if you aren't doing those you are welcome to just show your favorite real birdhouses which is what I am doing today. But, I did make these birdhouses for our feathered friends. I mentioned in an earlier post that I used to make and sell birdhouses in a brick and mortar antique shop. They are all made from old pasture fencing, antique ceiling tins, old door backplates and anything else fun and interesting I could find to add. It's a beautiful Spring day here today.....in the 70's and the birds are just chirping away so it's a perfect day for this tour. This first house is on my deck. It's not meant for bluebirds but they have built in it before. That white flower under the eave is actually an old jewelry brooch.

The next house is on the side of our screened in porch. The little sparrows use this house every year. It is actually three feet tall and mounted on a corbel.

This cutie is mounted on a picket fence post. Look how rusty the old tin roof has become. And the front of the house has cracked right down the middle but the birds don't seem to mind. They always use it. The perch is a little tiny wooden house with a clock mounted in it....thus the name of this birdhouse is Time Flies.

This is one of my bluebird houses and believe it or not, contrary to popular opinion,
the bluebirds don't mind one bit that it is painted pink. We are lucky to have lots of bluebirds around here. I just love them. Bluebirds start very early in the year looking for a place to build their nest.

This house sits on my screened porch for decoration. It's a double decker, painted white and aqua. It has a ceramic birdbath on the front porch and a old hat brooch pin, covered with flowers, as a perch.

And last but not least, is the house that sits on my front porch. It's more for looks than anything else but every year the birds try and build in it. That always amazes me because Ben sleeps right beside it a good part of the day and there is so much people traffic there every day. Don't you just love the little gold cherub that lays on the front porch and the antique glass prism that hangs from the roof line? The antique tin ceiling that is the roof has the original lime green paint on it and the old backplate has the original pink paint on it. The house sits on an old baluster that originally came from a Hardee's hamburger joint.

I have many more birdhouses and think they are fun to collect. I hope you enjoyed my tweet little Spring house tour. They are rusty, weathered, worn and perfectly charming.
xo Lynn

Hi Lynn,
What lovely birdhouses! I love weathered and worn, it fits my personna, lol. Would you mind if I made a copy of the Heaven's Grocery Store to put on my inspiration board. I have all kinds of scriptures on the board to inspire me when I work on my site. And that poem is definitely a keeper.
Thanks, Theresa@CottageViolets

Hello lynn.
I was waiting for a new post so I could comment. I love bird houses too. I love bird cages, little bird figurines. Here is a funny thing...I am actually sort of scared of birds. I had two finches and I could barely stick my hand in the cage LOl. Well the poor critters did not last very long at my house. I do not have the bird touch I guess. I will have to check out the bling bird houses.
Have a great day- Sheri
