Rainy Day Musings

After my last post on little signs of Spring popping up in the garden I am so looking forward to Karla and Beth's "Bling Your Bird House" day. To me bird houses are such a symbol of Spring and I can't wait to see everyone's faux and real bird houses. When I was part of a brick and mortar antiques store I made and sold lots of bird houses from old pasture fencing, antique ceiling tins, old door locks and anything cute I could get my hands on. This is one of them and I will show you more on the Bling Bird House day. This special day is Thurs. March 27th. You can read all about it here. Join everyone with your special bird house or just enjoy all the posts that day.

Adeline's Shabby Cottage just gave me this. Thank you and I am so grateful that you enjoy and read my blog. Brittany is just the sweetest lady and sells on Etsy and also has a beautiful boutique. I hope you'll pop over and say Hi and check out all her gorgeous things.

Speaking of Etsy, the guy that created Etsy was on Martha Stewart's show Fine Living the other night. His name is Rob and I declare he looked like he was 12 yrs. old. He was very energetic and had brought with him to show and tell some of the top selling crafts from the site and it's one million members. There is some unbelievable talent on Etsy. Kudos for Martha for showcasing this wonderful site.

Look what came in the mail yesterday. Aren't these faux cupcakes just divine looking? I was a recent winner of the Garden Goose give-away. I immediately put them on a pretty vintage glass cake plate and that evening..... sure enough....Bobby G wanted to know if he could have one. LOL. Go visit Garden Goose. She has a wonderful blog and also sells on Etsy too her adorable custom made goodies.

In mixing the Old with the New I thought you might like to see this suggestion. I know a lot of us have beautiful pieces of silver sitting in china cabinets or stored away and not being used. I use this pretty silver plated footed bowl to hold my make-up brushes. It makes them look so important. :)

And last, but not least, I wanted to show you another crown I finished. A person should not have as much fun as I am making these creations. It's a celebration of Spring crown. Love the butterflies! Bobby G has taken to coming into my studio at night and saying it's time to quit now Lynn. Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

I like the crown and your idea for using the silver pieces for display items. I've been using assorted creamers since they are never used around here unless we have company.
Have a great weekend!

The tin roof is wonderful on your birdhouse! You deserve a crown yourself for creating it! Thanks for telling everyone about the party.

All your pics are so nice, those cupcakes look SO GOOD! I JUST took a birdhouse out of our bathroom because two roof slats went missing. I didnt throw it out, so great idea...but what theme will I use??? Cottage? Shabby Chic? Nautical? HMMM, going to have to think on this a bit. Love the crown, I may need to wear one while im blinging the birdhouse

Lynn, I love the makeup brushes in the silver container. You're right - immediately, the brushes significance increased. And the contrast is elegant! Now if I can only remember where I stashed my old tarnished silver...

Faux cupcakes, huh? Well, it wouldn't stop me from chowing down, so you would need to put them up out of reach if I was around! Love all the little touches on this post - love the birdhouse, too! Thanks for the nice spring shots below, we need that kind of stuff up here in North Idaho! Love, Esther

Remember the wax fruit? My dad bit into a particularly lucious looking pear and got the shock of his life and forbad fake fruit from the house. I'd love to get him one of these cupcakes, lol!

Loved the birdhouse. Hard to believe, but I don't have even one! Used to, but in AZ the sun eats them up! The crown is adorable. I really need a crown. Cuz aren't we all queens! Enjoyed your blog.

The bird house is just divine! I have an old one outside with a rusty tin roof and a door knob. The little tufted titmice are builing a nest in it this year. I'm so thrilled! Yours is just so beautiful! I'd be afraid to put it up for tenants!!!!! Cora

PS: So glad I found your blog!

What first? I love the old with the new -- how you've combined the silver with your brushes...why not use what we have and make ourselves feel good at the same time?!? Perfect ideas!!

I love your birdhouse and I love the little cherub on the "porch" at the front!!!

And your crown?! Oh this is very springy indeed -- I think if I was to wear that all day I would just "channel" spring to get here NOW!!! :)

So much to see here and so many good ideas. I'll have to mark my calendar for the Birdhouse Bling event. I love the idea of combining humbler ojects with old silver ones. I have a few of those hanging about so now you have me thinking.

Did you see the gal who is Etsy's number one seller...Black Apple...today on Martha? Very interesting!

Oh, the crowns are so cute. LOVE the purple color combo.

It's hard to believe those cupcakes weren't real. Should a person drool like that over something that's not edible? :)
