Yesterday I was laying around feeling sorry for myself.....missing the kids something terrible, resting a torn hamstring (that's another story) and trying to stop the beginnings of a summer cold, when the doorbell rang. Now living where I do, if you are not expecting company the only reason for the doorbell to ring is a poor lost soul or the FexEx guy is here. I slowly got up off the sofa and lumbered (yes, I said lumbered:) to the door....peeking out the window. No one, nada, zilch so I opened the door and looked around. Sitting on the side walk was a large package. Why the FedEx guy left it on the sidewalk and not the porch is beyond me. Must have been my mean ol' golden retriever....NOT. I hadn't ordered anything that I could remember, so my curiosity is really up. Go down and get the package and there is the prettiest fairy princess on the mailing address. It's then that I recognize the return name. Gleefully laughing, I ran (I didn't really run...couldn't because of the gimpy leg) back in the house. You see, a couple of weeks ago I signed up for my first ever swap. Beachy, over at Beachys Cape Cod Cupboard is hosting a Vintage Boudoir Swap and I thought, "hey, vintage is right up my alley", so I joined in, never, ever expecting to get the special treats in this package. In Beachy's words this is how she describes this swap. "The Vintage Boudoir Swap can be anything vintagey, boudoir-ish your heart desires! I'll have the participants and their partner email each other with their color scheme, likes and dislikes in decor, etc (ie some prefer lacey things, some don't). So the sky is the limit really, just anything you could decorate your boudoir with! It can be something (or things) made, thrifted, something you may already have you want to pass along". My swap partner is Ann Denise of Whim & Fancy Design, who is a published artist. Her creations from crepe paper are out of this world...literally. So Denise, in answer to your comment made on Beachy's swap update reminder, "Yes, I fell head over heels" in love with it all. Folks, look at what I saw upon opening the box....lots of eye candy and gorgeous color.
Pulling out all this wonderfulness, I found a pretty flower bedecked and tulle wrapped pink box of almond cookies, green kitty grass and liquid sunshine to plant and bring inside for a bit of Spring and sweet metal markers to mark them with and "be still my heart", a bird's nest filled with blue eggs and a blue bejeweled lady bug. There was a happy green paper pocketbook filled with Mamma's tissues and a gorgeous wrapped chocolate bar.
Digging even deeper, I found the most incredible journal Ann-Denise had made. Just feast your eyes on the beautiful book......covered in vintage sheet music, beautiful graphics of birds and butterflies and the most wonderful queenly lady. It was filled with darling bookmarks and tied with gorgeous ribbons, charms and one huge vintage crystal pendant. On my boudoir desk this will sit, just waiting for my aha moments that I need to capture and write down. :)
But wait....there's more. Nestled way down in this wonderful box of goodies was one of her trademark crepe paper creations. The most gorgeous fan for milady to use by her swooning divan. Look at all those hand fashioned flowers tipped with pearls and bling. The fan, fashioned from vintage papers and tipped with more ruffled crepe papers, pink ribbons, tulle and a glittered pink watering can. How divine!!
And to my delight there was the most whimsy of whimsicals......a happy hot pink (my favorite color) and bright green whistle (for whistling for my man-servant) all tied up with happy fun things, key lime pie candy and a fancy "L".
And much to my surprise and amazement still.......all snuggled in it's cocoon of bubble wrap was the most gorgeous crystal candle holder. It looks like an unfolding lily and like it was made from the old vintage multi faceted chandelier crystals. And she included a beautiful seafoam green candle to go with it. This gorgeous item will light my way in the evenings by the pink garden tub.
Ann-Denise, I was blown away by your generosity, thoughtfulness, amazing creativity, fun and gorgeous items. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I only hope I can come close to delighting you and your chic boudoir with the items I have selected. Here is a little sneak peek. HeHe.
Thank you Louise for including me in your delightful swap. Can't wait to do another one. And if any of you have never done a swap I say go for it. It's so much FUN! xoxo Lynn
