It's 98 degrees here today! The kind of awful hot summer day where you could fry an egg on the sidewalk. And speaking of frying...... I don't like to fry stuff. I am scared of all that grease. I have tried in the past and always have grease pop on me. Poor Bobby G! He has never had good ol' fried chicken like my Momma makes because I won't fry it. One of Bobbie G's very favorite things are fried onion rings. I tried once and what a mess I made with having to dip the rings in a dry mixture and then a wet mixture and then the hot grease. They came out looking awful and not crispy. I even got one of those Bloomin Onion makers one time for Christmas from a SIL and I refused to use it. It's never been out of the box. Well....the other day I got my subscription magazine to Southern Lady and they had a recipe in there for fried onion rings that looked mouth watering. I showed the photo to Bobby G. He looked at me and I looked at him and he looked at me again. "Okay", I said. "I'll try it. But I'll make the recipe up and you do the frying." Agreed. And the results were pure perfection. Now, personally, I am not a big fan of onion rings but these babies were good, good, good. I dipped them in a zesty ranch dressing. Whenever I try a new recipe I always ask Bobby G. if it's a keeper. "Yes sirree Bob....IT'S A KEEPER", he said.
I was out shopping the other day and ran into Michael's for some supplies and darned if they weren't putting out all the Halloween stuff. Oh please, please, please let me enjoy the summer. Time flies so fast anyway, please don't force the end of October on me yet. But it did get me to thinking about my boutique items. So I have been busy making Halloween tags as well as Christmas too. But it's so hard with the hot, hot temperatures to get in the spirit of the holidays yet. Here is one of the Halloween gift tags. Remember that stash of vintage seam binding I found? I used some of the orange as the tie ons on this set of tags. I also used some vintage coin wrap papers too.
Since I have been collecting various and sundry things for my altered art I have decided to add another section to the boutique. It's called Odds & Ends and I have lots of fun stuff to put in it....like old game pieces, monopoly money, vintage nut cups and party blowouts and place cards, old wallpaper and other things. My find of the week this week will also be added there. These are old bridge score pad covers. I love them and since I play bridge will keep one but the others will go in the Odds & Ends finds. They are leather covered and still have the paper score pads inside. Whoever owned them must have been very good bridge players because one sheet shows where they bid a lot of 3 NT's and 6 NT's or someone got very good cards. :)
I hated like heck today to have to go out in this heat but I just had to go to the grocery store. The cat would not have been a happy camper tonight with no supper. When I returned home there was a big white box on the front porch. Oh boy....a package to open. But I hadn't ordered anything. However I had won a blog give-away recently from Suzanne over at Lavender Rose Bath & Body. She is getting ready to open her new website so stay tuned. She also has a real cute boutique called Think Pink Creations. I had won a gorgeous pink rose necklace but this box was way to big for that. Well let me tell you when I opened that box I was just blown away. Suzanne had said the rose necklace would come in something special and man oh man she wasn't kidding. I love it Suzanne. I love it all. When you see the following photos you will understand. The rose necklace was nestled down in one of the inside pockets of the tote. I don't know what to say Suzanne but thank you, thank you. That toile tote is so so me. You see I show it sitting on a toile chair that is in my kitchen. I love toile and I love black and white polka dots. The sweet necklace will be worn with pride. And folks that was not all. Tied to the pretty tulle bow was one of Suzanne's hand made crystal angel ornaments. That will be perfect on my white tree this Christmas. You can find them in her boutique. Did I tell you how pretty the packaging was....all wrapped in royal purple, tulle bows and purple crinkles. Suzanne's blog is pretty new and I know she would love to have you visit. She has pretty music too. :) Please tell her Lynn sent you and thank you again Suzanne.
Okay....one last thing. I think it's about time I have another blog give-away myself. It's so hot here that I want to get in and out of the kitchen as fast I can. This is a wonderful cookbook called Minute Meals....5-ingredient main dishes. Creative, stream lined menus that will let you fix a wonderful dinner in no time flat and get you out of the kitchen fast.
To enter I want you to guess what the creatures are in this pretty vintage glass compote. Just leave a comment on this post between now and next Tuesday. The first person to guess right will be the winner. Have fun and enjoy the rest of your week. xo Lynn
