Parting Shots ~ Thanksgiving

Today I woke up early to see a dreary cloudy day. But you know what? I like days like this. It makes the house feel so cozy. I am full of energy and because we won't be home for Christmas this year, I decided I wasn't going to put up a Christmas tree, but I changed my mind. I decided to put up one tree in the kitchen today. (yes, I am one of those crazy people who put up several Christmas trees). The one in the kitchen is the tree that has all the family mementos on it. And this year we have two new ones to add to it. My youngest son's best girl gave me and Bobby G. the most gorgeous ornaments yesterday. They are a hinged cloisonne dragonfly and a fish. A dragonfly because .......we have a million dragonflies that flit all around here in the summer and a fish because.....Bobby G. lives to fish on the lake. Even on the coldest day of the year he has to throw a line in the water.

Okay...I sort of got off course. On today's post I just thought I would do a little recap of Thanksgiving Day. It was a FABULOUS day. All week the weather had been crummy and cold and rainy and windy, but Thanksgiving Day dawned sunny and bright. Over the river and through the woods ( literally) the gang all arrived around 1 pm in their horse and buggies, I mean their cars, that lined the drive way and field.

I don't have any photos of the groaning board........well actually I do but they are in my son's camera and if I wait for him to send them to me before I post the photos you may be seeing them next Thanksgiving. But I do have a parting shot of the turkey. LOL....there's nothing left except the turkey legs. That was an 18 pound turkey ...... that's all gone. Lucky for me, I did buy a another small turkey breast that I will pop in the oven today so we can have those turkey, mayo and potato chip sandwiches. The lady in the photo is Ms. Kat, my sweet and ever so thoughtful sister-in-law. She always does the cleanup after dinner and for that I am so GRATEFUL. Thank you Kat!!

Some of us chose to veg after dinner and watch football while others decided a long walk was in order.

The day would not be complete if we didn't go visit the horses with treats of carrots and peppermint. So, off my sister, brother in law and I went down the lane to see Lacy and Soldier.

Eventually the younger set came outside for some frisbee and fresh air.

Photo time for me,....... sweet Ben and whoever that good looking young man is.

After all that fresh air and fun we were ready for the myriad of desserts that awaited us. A pumpkin mousse pie with caramel and pecans, (guess what I had for breakfast today?), a carrot cake, a chocolate meringue pie, and an apple cobbler. No one could decide what they wanted so we all graciously decided (ha!) that a slice of each was in order. What fun!

And as the sun set over the lake I thought to myself what a sweet ending to a perfect day.

Happy Black Friday everyone. As for me, no shopping today, unless it's from the seat of my pants and the computer. I am off to decorate a Christmas tree. :)

Love your photo; Ben poses well and looks like he's smiling! No shopping for me, either. There's not a thing in any store that I could want badly enough to fight the crowds. Happy tree decorating.

Now that was a perfect Thanksgiving day! The walk to visit the horses (dog along) would be my idea of heaven to walk off that fantastic meal. So glad you're relaxing now...we are having a couple of days of rain and I love it too...gives me reason to visit my friends!

Hi Lynn! Hope you didn’t grow fat on Thanksgiving ;) and survived all the awful news in the media this week… ;(
Fortunately the 18 pound is all gone; otherwise you'll have turkey the whole week... ;)) (That's the risk we run here in Christmas...)
Meanwhile Blogtrotter is still in Tunisia, waiting for your comments at the Blue Village! Hope you enjoy and have a great week!
