August 14th-16th

What I did the weekend of August 14th - the 16th, in no particular order. :)

Here's a little peek at what I found Saturday, August 15th, 2009 on my weekly treasure hunt. Pickings were slim but I carried on in the relentless heat and eventually my doggedness paid off as evidenced by the wicked grin Bobby G. saw on my face. One sale, I slowly cruised by and almost...almost decided not to stop because all I saw from the road were clothes and more clothes, but boy was I glad I did stop in. I found the best buy of the day.......sure to delight some shabby, romantic and elegant loving gal out there. :) Going in The Vintage Nest boutique as I speak (type). :)

Friday, August 16th, 2009..... we had invited an old college friend of Bobby G's and his adorable wife, over for dinner. They came bearing gifts, in true Southern fashion, of a vase full of gorgeous flowers from her gardens and a fabulous bottle of bubbly. You know there is nothing like company coming to get your rear end in gear and clean the house (like you should have done a week ago). So clean I did, cook I did, and entertained we did. I had planned on serving the appetizer and drinks outside and the dinner inside but the weather was just perfect, with the sweetest breeze blowing over the lake, so we dined outside too. Thanks D & J for your delightful company. We'll see you in September for the Rhondels concert.

Clean, Clean, Clean

Set the Table

Pick & Clean Herbs for Cooking and Garnishes

Peel the Peaches for Ice Cream ~ Let Bobby G. do the churning! :)

make the Appetizer ~ Yum! Swiss Cheese Garlic Spread
(compliments of Beverly of How Sweet the Sound.

And Dinner ~ Ta Dahhhhhh!

And on Sunday, August 16th, 2009 after I worked my fingers to the bone (as my Mom would say) :), I made a Halloween center piece for my Etsy shop. I love the way this whimsical Skull Guy turned out. Fashioned from a composite life sized skeleton, he sports a hand made fringed crepe Halloween collar. Poe's raven from Nevermore sits upon his shapely head in her fashionable Autumn nest. She sits over her vintage rhinestone brooch which she will wear to the Witch's Ball. "Oh how perfectly wonderful for your Halloween Fete, she says.

And that's what I did this past weekend. :)

What a great weekend you had! And I am so like you, cleaning hours before company comes!! My excuse is that if I did it any earlier, it would just get messed up. You can sometimes hear me yelling at everyone to take their showers so I can do the final cleaning of the bathrooms!! lol!

Your table looked wonderful and that appetizer looks really delicious. I'm glad you had a nice evening with friends.

Mr. Skull Guy is pretty gruesome!! I do love the detail. Halloween so soon?? Oh, how time flies!!

I love the little pink baby shoes...
I cleaned and cleaned too because I had company this Sat. Why do I neglect it- it just makes for more work than if I'd kept it touched up in a more timely manner...
Peach ice cream.... how yummy...
Lynn, could you share the appetizer recipe? pretty please...
hugs, Sue

You were busy doing a lot of nesting this past weekend, weren't you? I work better under pressure too. If you give me a month, I won't do anything until the last 3 days...I am such a procrastinator!
Your table looked lovely and the food yummy!

Wow, you have been busy! Isn't entertaining friends from long ago such fun?! It's busy at first, but so worth it later.
I love your halloween skull! I was thinking of fall this past weekend and how to begin decorating.
Have a wonderful week!

Hi Lynn!
Interesting weekend! I would take the bubbly bottle, to give some joy to two awful case-reading afternoons... ;))

Blogtrotter is leaving Iceland, but before departing it shows you the incredible Blue Lagoon. Enjoy and have a fabulous week!

Well Sweets,
I am officially signing in, lol. Sounds like a lovely time was had by all. That dip looked scrumptious. And the pink baby shoes, they'll fly out of your shop. I can't wait for this weather to cool down here, so we can enjoy the out of doors once again.
Have a beautiful blessed week,

Wistfully...I am waltzing about blogland today, I have no new posts yet...but, I am stopping in to say hello. There are many wonderfully pleasing places to visit today...(I am trying to see as many friends as I can)...fingers crossed!

Busy, little Vintage Nest! My oh my...
My favorite image is the shot of the garnishes and herbs...
They are laid out on the linen like fine jewels...(which in the garden, they most assuredly are!) :)

Gorgeous photos, Lynn! Are you going to take apart the chandelier pieces and sell them? If so, I'm interested in some of them. Thanks!

Hi Lynn,

Dinner outside looks wonderful!! It will be another month or more before we can move back out to the patio :( But I can't complain to much, I mean how many people are able to put their Christmas tree out on the patio and serve dinner there ?? :)

PS Your new "eggs" are adorable!!

Sounds (and looks) like a wonderful weekend! And great to see pictures of Uncle Bobby G too ;-) You do things so beautifully, no matter what the occasion.

On a side note, Allee's 4th birthday (gasp) is next month and she is undecided between a pink and purple princess party or a mermaid party. I might need to pick your brain a little once we have settled on a theme. I am confident that you will have some fab ideas for me. Much love!
