Altered Art & Pink Saturday

the French Cupboard is having a party today....yay!  With going green more important than ever to help our beautiful world,  upcycling and recyling is a way of life with crafters.  We like to take something old and maybe marbleize it, enamel it, alter it, add to it, take away from it, repurpose it, stamp it, collage it......well you get the point.  The French Cupboard's "Altered Art" party is today and I thought it would be so much fun to join in.  'Cause, heaven knows,  I sure do my part to keep this planet clean by bringing home some other soul's  junk to keep it out of the landfills. :)    Who doesn't want to wear a special party hat on any given day?  Birthday girls, , anniversary girls,  bachelorettte girls, or just plain because 'I'm special' girls, do it in style with a gorgeous party hat like this one.  Created from some beautiful vintage botanical prints I found.  They were in pretty bad shape.....too bad to frame and display so voila!.... a party hat for the rose loving garden girl.  The old pink rose litho print had turned that beautiful old vanilla color that only time can give.  I also used ...sniff...sniff....the last of my vintage pink crepe paper.  Vintage worn gold and green braid and vintage gimp from the old Santas I used to make in the 80's,  was repurposed into the embellishment for this piece.  Salvaged paper roses and leaves from a beat up old hat and lastly, beautiful creamy pearls from an old broken necklace finish off this grand piece.  Surely fit for a Princess!  

Still altering and repurposing by going from the beautiful and the sublime to the dark and spooky.  Yes, folks, it's hot outside, but it's almost August and before you know it Autumn will be here with it's crisp cool days,  oranges and blacks and spiders and Halloween.   Using a very worn out old book, I have made a fun display piece for a fabulous and fun Fall vignette.  Having a Halloween party? ........  perfect on the refreshment table or entry way table or carry with you to your neighbor's party.   The old book has been glued shut and the page edges painted a worn gold.  Dyed black muslin, frazzled and ragged and stiffened, covers the book.   This old book is a witch's book for you see it contains her spells and mystical brews.  Her rusty old key hangs from the black netting as well as her old black watch piece.  It's very important for an old witch to know when it's the bewitching hour of midnight!
