Second Hand Silver Collections

I am joining in on two parties today.  Won't you run over and check them out.  Each of these ladies host a party once a month and I love them both....and both right up my alley.  Beth at Gypsy Fish Journal (who has items in the Anthropologie catalog.....is that the coolest thing or what?)  has her Silver Sundays and sweet Tete has a new party called Second Hand Collections on the second Sunday of the month.  And surely as we all know, my collections are definitely second hand rose stuff.

This is my collection of second hand silver pewter ..... also known as poor man's silver.  I love the patina of old pewter.  My collection has come from all over the place...... from yard sales to antique shops to gifts from friends and family.   It is housed in our tall slender pickled pine cabinet in the kitchen. As the holidays approach I will put my Santa collection in among the old pewter pieces.  Some of the pewter trophies are actual pieces I won when I played tennis. If I remember correctly,  I think that was back in the 1800's.  :)   The photos are my grand girls and they are stuck in an old silver frog.

The second photo is a collection of vintage ornaments I put together and is available in the shop.  I think there is nothing prettier than a grouping of the old Shiny Brite's with their fabulous old aged patina.  I also included a vintage glass figural German Santa, an old tole painted ornament, an old pine cone piece and it wouldn't be complete without a sweet bird. :) The bird is not old but a mercury glass reproduction with fabulous time worn appeal.  The old pine cones are some of my favorites and I am really liking the lime green this season.  They are piled in a vintage silver compote dish and resting in a "nest" of vintage crinkled and shredded Christmas sheet music. "Oh, Joy!"

I am really glad you stopped by today and don't forget there is still lots of time to sign up for my Give Thanks party......here.  xoxo

I love your collections and pewter is so much fun- but just something I never got around to getting.
My mother had her grandmother's pewter butter dish, but it went to me brother when we divided up. I couldn't just take everything- even though I wanted to!
Thanks for joining the party!
Hugs- Tete
PS- Love the ornaments- I have a few of them myself.

I think pewter is a great medium or display piece-I don't think I have much though(may have to change that!) The ornaments look great with it!

Hi Lynn,

I love pewter, too. I have some pewter items for the table. Yours is so well polished, it looks almost like silver. Today, good pewter items are not anymore effordable for poor men. I love your Christmas Ornaments also. Oh, time is running, Christmas is soon.
Greetings, Johanna

I love it all! Last year I put ornaments in a silverplate tray and it sold right away and it wasn't nearly as pretty as yours.

That tray o' ornaments caught my eye. That is adorable. I like the look of pewter, but I just don't find it when I'm out thrifting. Maybe I'll get lucky one day.

Hi Lynn, The tray of vintage ornaments is so pretty! I also like pewter but I only have a couple of new pieces. Your collection is wonderful and your grand girls are adorable. See you Tuesday.

Hi Lynn ~ Your silver looks great. The shine on the old patina is something that can't be replicated on "new" silver. The ornaments look particularly nice in that pretty dish.

I don't have any pewter either. Yours looks so nice and I love the vintage Christmas bulbs on that pretty tray. Somewhere around here I do have a little pewter airplane, I found it metal detecting. Have a nice week.
