It's A Love Party!!

Yay!!   It's a party and that adorable blogger,  Laurie of Bargain Hunting and Chatting,  is throwing it.  And I mean to tell you Laurie knows how to throw a party.  They are the best in town and I am feel privileged to be invited.  Christmas has been over now for six weeks but I hope you will indulge me while I show you my tree.  You see,  I never got my Christmas tree up so decided a Valentine tree was definitely going up.  I used a 3 foot white tree that was perfect for the bay window and filled it with old  heart ornaments collected over the years, icicles...since it's still winter,  gold strands of heart garland,  pearly white and red orbs, lots of glittery red birds and sprays of iced branches.  The dearest piece of all is the sweet elephant flocked Valentine card given to me on my very first Valentine.  Thank you Mom for saving it all these many, many years.

Now you know a good Southerner never goes to a party without bringing something for the hostess so of course, with it being Valentine, what better than a chocolate dessert.  I just got this recipe from a friend and I mean to tell you it's to die for.  It's not a pretty dessert but it makes up for it in taste.  And the chocolate fudge icing is not only perfect for this cake but perfect on cookies, brownies, cupcakes, husbands and boyfriends.  :)  I hope you will try it.  Cherries and chocolate.....perfect for heart day. :)

Chocolate Cherry Cordial Cake

Grease a 9 x 11 pan,  bake 350 degrees 25-30 minutes (mine took a bit longer)

Mix well, gently, altogether

1 box any brand chocolate cake mix
21 oz. can cherry pie filling
1 tsp. almond extract
1/2 cup water
2 eggs - well beaten

Let cake cool 30 minutes before icing.

Icing:  In a medium pan put 5 tablespoon butter, 1 cup sugar, 1/3 cup milk
Mix well, stirring bring to a boil and boil 1 minute.

Remove from heat and pour in 1 cup chocolate chips, stir quickly until icing is smooth, silky and satiny.  Pour over cake and let set.

Thank you Laurie for having me.  I sure had a good time.  And thank you Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for our Valentine Pink Saturday.  As always, it's a fun day.  Laurie and Beverly,  please accept my love and  these roses as a thank you. :)  (this is a copy of an antique post card of mine....if anyone would like to copy it to use in your art projects please do.)

And I could not pass up the sweetest of days without telling you about Shirley.  Shirley lives and breathes Valentines and has the most extensive collection of the most beautiful antique cards and ephemera I have ever seen.  I think her collections have been in shows and she is a speaker. You must visit her blog.  She post gorgeous Valentines every day of the year at Sweet Romantic Notions.     xoxo

Happy Valentine

Lynn, your Valentine tree is so pretty. You have some wonderful ornaments on it, and I love the elephant card (which looks familiar to me, so maybe I also got one for my first V'tine Day). How wonderful that you still have it. Love the swirly V'tine ribbon on your tree. That cake sounds like something I could sit down and gobble up without sharing with anybody. I'm a chocoholic, so I'll definitely be trying this recipe. Thank you for sharing it, and thank you so much for linking this post to my Valentines Party and for all of your sweet words. I'll take my beautiful bouqet home now. I'll tell my husband I have a secret admirer! Hugs, laurie

That tree is absolutely charming, with all the dainty reds and colorful pretties. I planned one for this year, and kept our small white tree up downstairs (sans ornaments) until last week, when we finally put it away.

I'll just enjoy yours doubly, thinking what might have been, and that will be lovely for this year.

Happy Pink Saturday!

Love is in the air. I can see it in these photos. Such a gorgeous share.

Your tree is exquisite. I love the little elephant Valentine most of all. I can remember when they were so popular for everything. Even little baby gifts.

Loved the cake, even though I shouldn't have. Shhhh.

Have a glorious weekend. Country hugs and much love, Sherry

Those are some beautiful Valentine ornaments! I think that is a neat idea - I used to have a tree that I hung ornaments on with the season, but finally took it down after many years. I really like yours.

Love your tree and your sweet ornaments. My favorite is the elephant. It must mean so much that it was your first Valentine card. What a wonderful thing to have. I was reading all about you on your sidebar and I too love searching for treasures. Have a lovely Valentine's day.

Lynn,

I'm so delighted that you joined us at LAWN TEA! It's just a little bunch of my writings about Southern stuff---mostly remembrances, for we haven't lived there in a long time.

We DO have a REAL Lawn Tea planned for July, so I'll be posting about that, probably a LOT, as I tend to ramble on.

Thank you for following---it's an honor and a pleasure to have you here.

Your tree is so pretty. I told my husband yesterday that we just might be "needing" a Valentine's tree in the future.
