Monday is Wash Day
That’s when Momma did it
I suspect that’s when Grandma did it
And that’s when I do it
to some, true luxury is time spent spent hanging a freshly laundered basket of laundry on the old line to dry, perhaps using a vintage fruit basket as a clothespin holder....wooden clothespins that is, worn to a wonderful patina from time spent in the sun.
The wonderful old linens I find on my treasure hunts are always treated to a wash, a line dry in the sweet Virginia breeze, spritzed with a fine French linen water and freshly pressed.
Isn't the above large tablecloth simply amazing? Can you imagine the countless hours spent on all that cross-stitch work, all those tiny little x's, the inserts of crochet lace and finely finished with embroidery detail? How romantic to use on a picnic, a gorgeous way to high light the dainty edibles of a tea party, or even to use as a coverlet on a bed.
and red work, probably my most favorite of the old time stitching. I love the simplicity of it, some of it worn and weathered to perfection, such as this old tea towel with a sweet floral motif.
and let's not forget the sweetest of seasons coming up, the wedding season. Tone on tone fine old pillowcases....... the perfect gift for the bride and her husband to be. Monogramming, stitched with fat satin stitches, is so classic and the more years on these pieces the more special they are.
And then comes three. Vintage baby linens.......is there anything more precious? This old cotton and chenille coverlet is simplistic in design and full of charm with the sweet bunny in the center.
