That Old Black Magic

the front porch is done (I think) :) and I am joining Melissa, at The Inspired Room, for her Fall Nesting October Party....all about mantels and front doors this week. The inside of our home only sees the white pumpkins but the orange shines out front.  I try to do the front porch so it has a bit of Halloween on it but is easy to transition into November and Thanksgiving. This year with the party coming up, I will be adding a skeleton or two "buried at the foot of the steps" :).  Stay tuned for that next week.

"the witch is out"........yep.....that would be me most of the time.   Love this hand painted sign I bought years ago.  Now it's all cruddy and crusty and Halloweeny perfect.

my "across the lane" neighbor was kind enough to let me cut cow corn stalks from their fields.   Their home is circa 1700's.  Isn't that amazing?  One day I hope to do a post of their home and gorgeous heirloom vegetable gardens.  They threw a pig picking party last week complete with a band.  What fun we had!  I love the fact that the corn is still on the stalks complete with its witchy looking hair. :)

this small sconce shelf on our front porch was a Ballard's buy years ago.  Every season it holds something different.  Right now.....a warty gourd!

I feel like you must get tired of this ol' witch showing you the front porch urn but I just love to change it up for the season and love how the weather has really put that fabulous rusty patina on the cast iron. It's heavy as heck!  Usually I surround the knarly pumpkin with small ornamental cabbage but recently I bought some hen and chicks at a yard sale.  The sweet old lady was selling them for 50 cents each and I bought a bunch.  I think they will last though out the winter.

as the crow flies he takes his old black suitcase with him.  Actually found this fabulous piece some time ago.  It didn't sell in my booth so I decided to bring it home.  I think it's perfect Halloween fare with old black magic......don't you? I think somebody missed out!

the white lanterns were part of the wedding party decor last Fall and I have enjoyed using them throughout the seasons.  One sits on the base to what used to be an old fountain.

coming in the front door, straight ahead is the entrance table.  Joining Marty at A Stroll Through Life this week, I decided to bring the outside in for her Tuesday's cloche party.  The old cement squirrel usually sits in the front garden.  He's cracked and worn ...... just perfectly imperfect!  He is squirreling away his winter stash of acorns.

next week at The Vintage Nest blog, I will be joining Vanessa for her Fanciful Twist Halloween party.  I hope I do her proud, for her parties are always the talk of the season.   Why she's even been featured in magazines.  I plan on showing you some frightfully but elegant decor from my own party.  Until then........    xoxoxo
(P.S. the old black typewriter was a yard sale find!)

Love that dried corn on the stalk, the lanterns, and your little acorn cloche.

Love it all!!! I have been wanting to get some corn stalks for my front but the corn was stunted this year due to lack of water so they are not to be found! The black suitcase is a great idea and I have one similar that I just might have to take out of my booth and do the same!!!

Great front porch!

Against my better judgment I am going to admit to my naive suburban housewife sensibilities and admit that I had to Google what a "pig picking" is. Google actually has it as pig pickin' with no "g" on the end. I will further admit that I thought it might be like an event at a county fair where you pick the best-looking pig. I guess that kinda does apply here. You pick the best looking pig...and then you EAT HIM!!!! :-) Great corn stalk decor, and I love that gourd with all its warts on that wonderful bed of Spanish moss! The addition of the succulents makes it look even cooler. Cool old luggage piece, too. I have an old piece of luggage that belonged to my Dad that has the hard sides like this. Those were the days! Not NEARLY as much stuff got broken in transit! :-) Great decor!

Happy Pink Saturday, my sweet friend. Thank you for always making Pink Saturday special.

Guess whose post was most viewed via Pink Saturday last week? Yep, it is this one, and I can see why. Your porch is awesome - and quite "spookily" elegant. Love it all. And, that orange pumpkin has me drooling.

Hi Lynn, stopping by via Beverly's Pink Saturday. Love your porch, especially the white lanterns. I have one sitting on our front porch bench and always mean to purchase more but never get around to it. I think they look so pretty when they're grouped. Orange pumpkin fan but must admit your whites look pretty here.
Love the typewriter.

Marcia

Great post. I'm on Pink Saturday for this weekend. Happy Pink Saturday!
