UPDATE: Baby Boy is here!!!!! (12/29/2012)
so while we wait for that phone call, I decided to get ready for the New Year early. Some of the fresh holiday greenery around the house was pretty dried out, so out they went and the next thing I knew I had everything down. I started my paper whites and Amaryllis (a deep red Double Dragon) a couple of weeks before Christmas and had put them away. So out they came to add some cheer to the family room and kitchen. I am already catching the scent of the paper whites........smells so good.
We have this very very charming shop out here that has been featured in Romantic Homes......called Gather. If you come visit me I'll take you there. :) Located on a winding pretty country road, it's the old Hallsboro store and Melissa stocks it with fun eclectic new items you won't find anywhere else and antiques. I ran up there not too long ago and plucked this darling tree branch festooned with three moss covered bird nests right off the shop Christmas tree. I put it down in the pot of paper whites. It will make a fabulous "stake" when those stems get tall and lanky.
We had family here for Christmas day dinner but I didn't do a turkey so Bobby G. ask would I please cook a little turkey and the trimmings later, so that's what I am fixing on Saturday. Suppose to be a cold rainy day so I'll be happy in the kitchen. Do you have big New Year's Eve plans? Not us......(if we're not on the road) we will just chill out at home and eat a bunch of junk. :) I will be making pork b-b-q, fresh greens, Hoppin' John (for good luck, prosperity and money.....I think we're gonna need it), Farmer's potatoes and sweet potato pudding for New Year's Day. xoxoxo and I wish you a .........
Happy New Year!

Nice to see you, Lynn! It sounds like you had a good Christmas and you are done deChristmasing already? I have to leave stuff up until after the kids are here this weekend. They love the house all decorated for Christmas.
Have fun with your hubby on New Year's Eve. We are going to be low-key because MyHero is on call so we can't be far from home. Blessings- xo Diana
The waiting really gets to you after awhile, doesn't it? I hope you get good news soon and that you are able to travel in good weather to see your new grandchild! I'm not from the South, but my great-Grandmother was and always had us to eat greens and black-eyed peas on New Year's Day. My great-Aunt told us that if we put a black-eyed pea wrapped in a collard green leaf in our billfold that we would never want for money throughout the year. I did it, and it seemed to work! I haven't done it in the last 2 years, and we've had financial difficulties. So...what do you think I'LL be doing on Tuesday? :-) The down side of putting that in your billfold is that it smells awful after awhile for about a week, then it doesn't smell anymore. I'm still going to do it! Enjoy your New Year's Eve, and I'm rootin' for you guys!!!
Lynn, stopping in to wish you a very healthy and happy new year. Catching up on your recent posts that I've missed this week while away from my computer. Gather sounds like my kind of store. ;-)
I know you are anxiously awaiting the birth of that baby. Exciting time! ~ Sarah
You must be on pins and needles waiting for this baby! I hope it happens soon!
I love the branch with the nests and it will be perfect to tie the stems to. I was late in getting paperwhites and they were sold out. :(
We never go out on NYE and I plan to cook something special that day, too. I am just getting some energy back!!
XO,
Jane
How exciting! It's so tough to wait.. My son was born Dec. 17th (he is now 24!) and it was such a stressful season for me because everyone said that I would probably deliver on Christmas day..
Your flowers are so pretty. I have paper whites that have been open for about a week now. They are so pretty and have an intoxicating smell. It's lots of fun to watch them grow from the ground up;)
Good luck with the baby on the way:) and wishing you a happy New Year!

Hope the baby arrives soon. They certainly have their own time schedule. I still have the decorations up and I am kind of dreading the taking them down. I love that branch with the little nests. :)

It's amazing how anticipation is still so powerful even when we are grown-ups! I know you are so excited for the arrival of the little one. =) Im glad you had a good Christmas. It was a quiet one here.
Wishing you all the best with the new grand baby and the sparkly new year!! xo
Babies know when it's their time ... they just don't tell us in advance so we can plan. This is part of the wonder, I think. (Our second daughter was a New Year's baby ... perhaps your son and daughter-in-law will have one, too.)
The nested branch is fabulous! What a great idea. No plans here for New Years Eve...just staying home and reflecting on the past year and looking forward to 2013.
Happy New Year!
Praying for a healthy mom and baby. Love those images. Your meal sounds yummy.
Lynn, I see you updated that your grandson is here. I bet you are thrilled and can't get there quick enough to see him. Congrats and enjoy time with your family. I wish you a blessed and happy 2013.
Hugs, Sherry
I think that baby boy has his own ideas, maybe he wants to be a New Year's baby! Awww, I know you can't wait Lynn. I love paper whites, they just go with Christmas and so fresh for the New Year! I've been in the kitchen too, so cozy with all this cold rain we've had. Love the birds nest and I would love to go with you to Gather's if I'm ever in your neighborhood. Look forward to hearing about the baby's arrival!
