Make-over on Antique Cedar Chest

Wanted to share with you today a re-do I did on an antique Victorian blanket chest or hope chest.  Lined with cedar and still has its original tags and skeleton key.  I bought this at auction and, like a lot of items I buy at auction, I give it a quick look-over and then threw up my hand for a bid.  Then, when I get it home find some serious flaws.  This particular old girl had a number of problems.....as in, missing veneer and some gouges.  But perservering, I fixed her up and got her ready for a new paint job.  Using Annie Sloan chalk paint, I painted the piece in Old White and a valspar paint in Sea Air, a pretty aqua.  A coat of clear wax, a slight white washing and another gentle coat of dark wax and she was finished.   I love how the paint brings out the pretty details in the medallion and decorative overlays.    This piece will be going to my booth space at The Lazy Daisy shop in Midlothian, Va.  :)  Miss you all!

How old would you say this chest is? Love her legs and back fence piece, 40's-50's? You sure did great job revitalizing this piece, ready for new life. Love to see old beat up pieces prettied up, ready to go on to new life. Hope she sells quickly for you. Would be wonderful wedding gift. Have great week.

Love the colors you used! I'd say it was well worth the trouble.

That sounds like something I'd do. I'm even guilty of overlooking major flaws when I have the chance to really examine things. And those are invariably the things I paid too much for to start with. LOL

I have a family chest about the same style - wonder if my chest would look this good?

I bet that will sell in a heartbeat! Looks like you did a great job fixing the flaws. I'm always guilty of not seeing the flaws either till I get it home. So I can relate. Visiting links today on Vintage Charm link party. Pinning.
