Come Ride With Me

"Won't you take a ride with me?" It's Saturday and I decided to head into town which is probably a mistake because of the Saturday traffic but some things just have to be done. And you know we will just have to stop at some little antiquey type place along the way. Bring your umbrella because the skies are looking mighty ominous. Just one more red light and then we'll be at Hudgin's Garden Center.

We had torrential down pours the night before and the garden center walking paths were all mud and for some idiotic reason I had worn my black Italian loafers. Can you say "what a mess?" I was searching for pink spireas and of course, don't you know, they were in the "way back there" greenhouse. But the good news was they were on sale.......three for $45.00 and I wanted three. Yippee!! Will you help me carry them to the car? I also got some pink mums.....yep....that's what I said...PINK mums.

On the road again. " Turn here honey. I see something new. It's called the MarketPlace." "Oh boy" Bobby G. says. "I can't wait." "Bring the umbrellas......the sky is black."

Okie Dokie......just what you need Bobby G., an Elvis lamp for your man cave....NOT! And look at this fabulous chair with the gold gilt.....I love it! NOT! Hmmm....it is kind of growing on me the longer I look at it. Oh wait.....here's one that's more my style. But a bit pricey though. We'll think about that. Now here we go....something for theVintageNest. Isn't this just the sweetest? A just barely pink mid-century dresser set. And look at the charming etching in the lids. Too too sweet. Okay...it's hot in here. Let's go.

On the road again......still stormy skies. We're heading into my old neighborhood now back in the 'burbs. What we're doing is kind of going in a circle. Up one highway into town, making a left and then back down a different highway back to home.....but first!!

Stop Bobby G.!!! A yardsale at the middle school.....it's a big one....stop the car. Shoot...nothing here but clothes and toys.....no fun old stuff. But we did get a cold drink 'cause I gotta tell you....it's hot and humid today. He!He! Got your best..I mean back side Bobby G.

Okay now this section of the highway is where they are working on a humongous new shopping center. Once it's built I will probably never have to go into the city again for anything. It's a shame though because where it is being built, used to be a huge nursery on hundreds of acres of land. It' where I used to shop 33 yrs. ago for any plantings I needed. The nursery was considered to be way out in the country at the time and now it's going to be a big shopping/commercial center. The folks that owned that land are some kind of rich now. Life moves on I suppose. We're seeing a lot more motorcycles on the road these days. Gee....I wonder why?

Sorry, but I have to make a quick stop at the grocery store. It's not snowing but I do need bread and milk. :) Okay..Okay....couldn't resist a gourd or two or three..........or four.

Back on the road again and I promise just one more stop. It's this little dive of a flea market but wait until you see what I found there. The most shabbiest but chic chic urn vase I have ever seen. It's tall....about 18" and was once silver but now it has all this glorious weather worn patina. It's full of curves, lion heads, lady heads, pastoral scenes, bead detail, acanthus and fleur de lis detail.....can you tell I am excited? The lady that I bought it from couldn't believe I told her she could keep the dusty fake leaves that were in it. :) I am only going to show you a sneak peek because I haven't put it in the boutique yet.

Okay, you can see by the traffic or non traffic I should say, that we are back in the country again. The corn field is just before you come to our lane and here we are at the lane and almost home. I really enjoyed your company and hope you'll go with me again. Next time I promise to take you to some wonderful little place for lunch instead of the market deli but weren't they the best homemade chicken strips?

I have a very busy week this week ..... lots of things to do. Hopefully I'll see you before Saturday at Beverly's Pink Saturday. I have the most scrumptious pink thing to show you. Have a great week y'all!!!

First, thanks for the message you left concerning Michael. His mom wants to read all the comments people leave and I know they will be a comfort to her also.

Thanks for the wonderful ride!
I too felt like I was riding along with you in the car and enjoying all the beautiful trees and shopping even at the Food Lion..(a store we do not have.)
The area looks familiar and maybe we will drive through those places this week...while we visit beautiful VA.
Thanks again, Beth

What a fun trip you took us on!! sounds like you had a wonderful time! Love those pink mums, I didn't even buy any this year.
Antique business slowed down a bit this past week, gee I wonder why with all the wall street stuff. I am positive it will shake loose and all be OK!
How is your boutique doing? It really is lovely.

Hi Lynn. Great post. I love the second chair and the dresser set. I didn't think Fook Lion was still in business. The ones in Orlando pulled out a few years ago. I never had a good experience there, unfortunately. Love rummage sales, but never have themoney to go to any. I might see something I can't live without! LOL
Stop by my blog when you get a chance. I have an award waiting there for you.

Sounds like our kind of day, Lynn.

We have Osage Orange here, it's called Hedge, also. J has used the tree for fence posts and corner posts...very hard wood. The orange is also called hedge apple. I've used them for fall decorating, too. Several years ago, I sliced the "fruit" and baked/dried them in a slow oven. I then sealed them with clear acrylic spray and ran a wire through the center. Very pretty in dried arrangements.
