Made from the Heart with Love ~ May Day

Tussie Mussie ------ What is it? A small bouquet of flowers; a nosegay; a cone shaped holder for such a bouquet.

May Day ------ What is it? An old English tradition of celebrating the first day of May by dancing and singing around a Maypole, tied with colorful streamers and ribbons and the hanging of May baskets on the doorknobs of neighbors. I don't hear much about May Day anymore but I think it's high time we brought back that tradition don't you? It's such a sweet way to celebrate the new season and the awakening of Spring and all it's glories. I hope you all will maybe decide to make your own cone or Tussie Mussie, fill it with whatever makes you happy and present it to someone special. It's still a couple of days until May 1 and I guarantee you will bring a smile to someone's face and your's too!

And that's exactly what happened when I opened the package that arrived in the mail from Marilyn of the blog "Unshelved Words". My face just lit up in pure delight when I saw the charming tussie mussie she made. We were swap partners in a swap hosted by Linda of the blog "A Swap for all Seasons". You need to get on over there right now and sign up for the new swap that's just starting.......a vintage bridal/wedding swap. What fun! Anyway....back to the Tussie Mussie swap. I really didn't tell Marilyn anything much about me except what I am NOT particularly fond of, which are the colors brown, orange and beige. Just look at this gorgeous tussie she made and the colors are just luscious.....the softest pinks and greens and there's even a little pink birdie nestled down in the hydrangea blossoms and a little tiny journal. And she included some totally amazing elements to work with that I can't wait to use in my next projects. Pearls and rolled papers and old pattern bits and ribbons and buttons and an old stamp page........what fun I tell ya! And I am sure even the mail lady had fun delivering the beautiful package for she had a sweet birdie on the outside of it too. Thank you Marilyn. Not only will this hang on my door on May Day but thru out the year too! I love it!

And this is a sneak peek at the tussie mussie I made for Marilyn....made from the heart with love. Happy May Day Marilyn.

Just beautiful!! I personally would love to see the return of flowers on the door and I would like a Maypole in my own back garden ( or the front, I am not really fussy).
I love your tussie mussie sneak as well, can't wait to see the rest, it sounds like a beautiful swap...I need to swap more..

Being a May baby, I am extremely fond of all the month's fun. The idea of dancing around a May Pole is something I've always wanted to do! Love the tussies and y'alls are both beautiful. Who wouldn't want to open the door and find those?

I'm so glad someone explained the history of a Tussie Mussie. I had no clue...just like the Dogwood & Redbud Tree. I learn something new from you everyday! They're so pretty!
