Love that red! The porch trim had been painted a dark army green with a cream trim and 10 years worth of living on it. The new paint colors are dark slate gray, a very very light gray and white trim. Plus you can see straight through from the family room, through the kitchen, through the dining room onto the porch.....all of which have red in them. So I wanted to add accents of "worn" red on the porch too.
So off I went to my favorite design shop with my vintage linen clutched in my hand. Now this store, in my opinion, has some snooty personnel and high prices to match but it's lots of fun to browse for ideas. And I have to tell you what I saw was pretty much the same thing all you fabulous bloggers create in your own home but for a lot less. Painted vintage furniture, burlap and grain sack pillows, old bird cages turned into chandeliers, etc. Then I traveled to my favorite discount upholstery fabric store and this is what I came up with......my color and fabric board. :)
I spent a total of $62.00 on designer fabrics and I found a raggedy oriental rug for $20.00 at an antiques mall. Yep....I am using an oriental on my porch. Why??... I love the colors and design and the unexpected! (and the price) :) Ticking inspired quilted reds and taupes, and old ticking pillows too, faded florals and rich navy striping combined with the old white wicker, vintage pieces and yep....even a painting on the porch. Accent colors of aqua in an old wood ironing board, one old rocking chair and the porcelain chipped flowers of an old tole lamp add a sweet side note. Bobby G. fails to see the charm and whimsey in my rusty wire lamp shade. :) But you do, I bet. :) And finally, .....about that coffee table the workmen broke. I went shopping out in the shed. Found this old shabby wrought iron garden table that had belonged to my mother-in-law....perfect!

Oh Lynn it's fabulous! Where do you find the time??? I would love to sit on your porch. A blog party, oh, this sounds good!

This is the kind of spot I would want to settle in with a glass of anything cold and just let the world go on about it's business.
Amazing what an excellent imagination can do with out having to break the bank.
Debbie
I want your back porch, Lynn! It looks so cute, cozy, and comfy. Your fabric combinations are precious. Like the idea for the new linky party. :-)
Great job on your porch! Makes me miss my old one even more. Enjoy your spot.
Lynn- You put together a great porch there- Love the piece that you started out with and then built around. I have an "indoor" carpet on my front porch too and love it.
I can't wait to tell you all MY problems! xo Diana

What a darling porch. I love the piece that you found. You did a wonderful job with it. Thanks for sharing. Karie
Your porch is fabulous, and oh so inviting! The pillow is perfect. And I think my favorite thing in the entire room is that darling little birdie with the pearl necklace, perched on the vintage book! How creative! Your blog party sounds awesome:)
Hi Lynn!
Love your porch and your inspiration piece is wonderful! I could sit in that chair for hours and relax!
Oh how I love to do what you've done with the vintage linen. It looks great as a pillow on your porch of grays. Fabulous porch!
Hugs, Sherry
Mesmerizing! There is something fabulous in the fact of a peeling and rusty piece put together with trim, pretty and perfect!
It looks so cozy! Can I come over for some sweet tea and sit a "spell?" Ha, ha. Thanks for visiting me and I can't wait to see what your link party is about. I sure do have a lot of problems! What, oh, not those kind of problems, ha?! BTW, I intend on moving South in about 2 years. Going to Savannah in September to check it out.
Hugs,
Jacalyn

Ms. V. Nest. I am sorry but this is the only way I know to contact you. But, Stump work in needlepoint is a 3-d effect, made by using different stitches and the cutting the yarn to make it sculptured,if you go back and look at the rose pillow real close on the close up, you will see it. It is a lost art and you hardly every see it done today. That is the only piece I have in my vast needlepoint collection, but, I have seen others. Thanks for stopping by. Hope this helps. Richard at My Old Historic House.
Lynn - you have created THE perfect summer porch! I could spend all day curled up out there (and I promise you'd never know I was there...lol!). Love the combination of colors and textures you've used. Soooooo very pretty! :)
