It's All About Color

or the lack of color!
that inspires

I am a white kind of person, or vanilla, or cream if you will, when it comes to decorating my home. Actually, vanilla ice cream has always been my favorite. As a kid, every Friday night, we were given a nickel to go to the corner store and buy whatever we wanted. For me, it was always a tiny paper cup of vanilla ice cream. Does that make me boring? Maybe, but I love it anyway. In the summer, it's cool, crisp and refreshing. Come the chill of autumn, add a fluffy soft thick cable knit throw on a favorite chair and the room is instantly transformed into warm and cozy. Add to the decor a palette of patterns and you are given a pop of oomph that pleases and delights the eye. Mix shades of frost to darker tones of smoke, with the patina of wood in heirloom pieces, the industrial chic of silver, sculpted rugs and unusual old architectural pieces. The white on white, unifies the eclectic mix of ornaments.  Inspirational whites come from everywhere....even the UNEXPECTED........

such as

vintage baby shoes

Are these not the sweetest?  recently found 1940's felt booties.....
the color......warm old vanilla  (found on my website here)

the color.............dirty white in well worn crawlers

the color............worn polished white (love how the Mom signed these & available on my website here)

the color............matte creamy whites  (from my personal collection of 1940's pottery baby shoes)

Although I adore color - I also love a lot of white! My kitchen and baths are all white - something I know I'll never tire of.

Love your baby shoes - the texture is fabulous and love that the mommy signed them.

Thanks for joining our Color party - because white isn't the un-color - it's The Color!

Look how sweet those baby shoe's are. Makes me wish I had my own. I love cream, white and of course vanilla. I love to add some white in each room. Today we had white puffy clouds to look at! Enjoy the week,

Black and white are my colours of choice but I do get inspired by the colours in the natural world. I kept a pair of baby shoes from each of my daughters, scuff marks and all1 ~ Maureen

you do whites so well, you are making me a believer! (and coming from a gal who now adores color after living the young life in apartments where white was the ONLY color choice on walls.) i, too, find myself graduating back to the soothing tones of creams and whites.

p.s. let me say (because i am sooo behind in blog reading - due to summer craziness), that i'm glad all went well with surgery last week. xoxo

Thank you for your fun comment on my bug scoop. I'm not squeamish about bugs, tho I really hate for a dead squished one to slide down into my hand when I'm trying to remove it. I discovered this idea quite accidentally and realized there are lots of people out there who would appreciate it. My favorite part of the tutorial is, of course, the wrapping paper tube one for those who wouldn't touch a bug with a 10 foot pole!

Thankyou so much for popping in to say hello at French Blue and Peachy Pink !
I also love white and no it doesn't make you boring at all loving vanilla ice cream ! White is simple, pretty and full of class all at the same time. It represents cleanliness and purity. I love the fact that when an object is white you can appreciate the line and texture of an item. Brighter colours tend to cover that up. Your blog is lovely and I will now look forward to keeping up to date with your new posts as I am now a follower !

Lynn, You do creamy white beautifully in your home. The baby shoes are adorable and I love that the mother dated one of the shoes. Thanks for joining the Open House party this week.

Isn't it wonderful how moms always know to treasure those little shoes... they may be worn out and cracked, but tiny tiny feet were tucked inside and walked and crawled and that baby is always in their hearts.
